The Alexianer Return to Kenya: A Partnership That Keeps Growing

This April, AG German Institute welcomed the Alexianer back to our project in Kenya for their second visit — a milestone that says a great deal about where this partnership has arrived, and where it’s heading.

Over the last two years, we have recruited more than 150 candidates together: Kenyan registered nurses with a diploma (KRN/KRCHN) as well as nurses holding a bachelor’s degree, now building their careers in Germany. This time, the Alexianer travelled with their full international recruitment team, representing a wide network of hospitals and nursing homes across Germany — from Berlin and Brandenburg to Nordrhein-Westfalen, Bayern, Baden-Württemberg, and Rheinland-Pfalz.

What makes this collaboration work is a shared standard. Together we focus on language training all the way to ÖSD B2, the level that lets nurses communicate confidently with colleagues, patients, and families from day one on the ward. But language alone is only half the picture. We also make sure our candidates are well prepared in practical nursing — so that when they arrive, they’re ready not just to speak the language, but to do the work to the standard German care facilities expect.

The team’s visit was a chance to meet candidates in person, see how our training runs on the ground, and strengthen the working relationship that has already changed more than 150 lives. Two years in, this is exactly the kind of partnership we set out to build: rigorous, personal, and genuinely long-term.
