AG German Institute reaches out to Kenyan nurses for careers in Germany

According to a 2024 report by the German Federal Employment Agency, Germany’s healthcare system is one of the most advanced in the world, but it faces significant workforce shortages, the country is short of over 200,000 nurses, a gap expected to widen in the coming years. As a result, Germany has opened its doors to healthcare professionals from around the globe, creating numerous opportunities for registered nurses in countries like Kenya. Recognizing this potential, AG German Institute recently embarked on a successful outreach program to several Kenyan Medical Training College (KMTC) campuses and universities, offering pathways for Kenyan nurses to prepare for rewarding careers in Germany.

Kenya, with its robust nursing education system and talented healthcare professionals, has become a focal point for such recruitment efforts. Kenyan nurses, known for their dedication and expertise, are well-suited to meet Germany’s healthcare demands. However, navigating the transition to Germany’s healthcare system requires not only professional qualifications but also language proficiency and cultural acclimatization areas where AG German Institute is stepping in to help.

From January 16th to January 21st, AG German Institute conducted an extensive outreach program across key KMTC campuses and universities in Kenya. The sessions were held at the following institutions; KMTC Nakuru, KMTC Mombasa, KMTC Mosoriot, KMTC Kaptumo, KMTC Kapsowar, KMTC Port Reitz (Mombasa), Kabarak University Main Campus and Kisii University.

The outreach attracted over 600 nursing students who had recently completed their Final Qualifying Examinations (FQE). These sessions aimed to provide information on Germany’s demand for registered nurses and the pathways available through AG German Institute.

During the sessions, students were introduced to the requirements for working as a nurse in Germany, including the importance of mastering the German language and understanding Germany’s healthcare protocols. AG German Institute offered a unique opportunity for attendees to enroll in German language courses as they await their FQE results. By learning German, students can enhance their employability and prepare to transition smoothly into the German healthcare system.

Our Institute’s structured program guides aspiring nurses through every step of the process, from language acquisition, understanding Germany’s licensing requirements, job interviews and Visa applications. Participants also gain insights into the cultural and professional expectations of working in Germany, ensuring they are fully prepared to thrive in their new roles.
